Notes From My Nephew

(Tuesday, Aug. 16):

"Dear Auntea,
I am going to Cultus lake. You won't see me for some time. Because I am going to have some fun time there. And you won't see me that much to day. [flip page] Yours turly,
Kenneth
PS. Here's
a picture"

(An arrow now meanders half-way down the page to a picture he drew of himself, going down a water-slide, saying "WEEEEE!" The water-slide does a loop-de-loop before coming to rest somewhere off the lower right-hand corner of the page)

(Wednesday, Aug. 17):

"Dear Auntea, You won't see me today. Just like yesterday. I am gone going some where far really far. I am going to ubc so that I can get my retainer. But I am going to get my retainer on novnber november. I have to go to ubc becaue theyaregoing to measure my theeth teeth so that they can make my retainer. I will get my retainer on november. I hope I will see you today. Yours turly, truly, Kenneth"

(Directly below this note is a picture of him leaning back in a chair, with his mouth open as if he was screaming, and some strange items in his mouth. A drill is just off to one side, as if ready to be inserted in his mouth. A dental assistant stands beside a tray, a happy smile on her face. His own expression is one of terror)

"PS. I love you"

I really, really hope he keeps writing these notes to me. They're better than Shakespeare.

You're right. As a kid things took forever to happen. Now, in my mid fifties, time is a blur...

wow, a day must seem like an eternity to him ... I remember dimly that days seemed very long to me as well when I was a kid. Nowadays, at 41, however, days pass by real quick ... ooh it's Tuesday, I barely noticed ... ;)
